SQL vs NoSQL: what carries over?
Every database path includes modeling, indexes, consistency, query performance and recovery. MongoDB is a document database; NoSQL also includes key-value, wide-column and graph models. Pick two databases to learn both paths without duplicating the shared foundations.
Data modeling
SQL: Relations, keys and normalization; joins connect rows.
Document / NoSQL: Documents embed or reference related data; model around access patterns.
Querying
SQL: SQL joins, aggregation, subqueries and window functions.
Document / NoSQL: MongoDB query operators and aggregation pipelines; other NoSQL engines have different query models.
Indexes
SQL: Selectivity, compound indexes and execution plans matter.
Document / NoSQL: The same tradeoffs apply; MongoDB adds document-specific features such as multikey indexes.
Consistency
SQL: Transactions, isolation and constraints protect invariants.
Document / NoSQL: Atomicity and consistency still matter. MongoDB supports multi-document transactions; guarantees vary by engine and configuration.
Operations
SQL: Backups, recovery, pooling, replication and access control.
Document / NoSQL: The same responsibilities remain, with engine-specific scaling and recovery tools.

Progress measures your selected path and goal; it is not a guarantee of interview readiness or expertise. Complete the building exercises and mocks as well as the theory. Confidence is your own 1–5 assessment. Up next follows your section and topic order, including topics needing revision.
